Fedora Linux

Fedora is a Linux operating system distribution developed and supported by the Fedora Project, an open source community formed in 2003 as a partnership between Red Hat and volunteer contributors. Red Hat Enterprise Linux branches for commercial use are based on Fedora, while the open source Fedora Linux OS itself is freely available for use and customization.

The most recent release of Fedora Linux, Fedora 18, debuted in January 2013 and is nicknamed the “Spherical Cow.” Fedora 18 utilizes GNOME 3.6.3 for its desktop interface and includes, among its other new features and additions, UEFI Secure Boot support, KDE 4.9, Xfce 4.10, improved Active Directory support, and the OpenStack Folsom open source cloud platform.

Fedora 19, nicknamed “Schrödinger’s Cat,” is currently in development and is expected to make its debut in July 2013.
