SBA


Short for the U.S. Small Business Administration, a government agency that helps Americans start and manage small businesses by providing loans, disaster assistance, advocacy and training.

One of the programs offered by the SBA is the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), in which specific Federal funding is set aside for award to small businesses in partnership with nonprofit research institutions to move ideas from laboratory to marketplace, to foster high-tech economic development and to address the technological needs of the Federal Government.

The SBA was created by Congress in 1953.
