Degree Creep

when people need higher degrees to obtain the same job that people with lower degrees used to get. ex. when the same job that used to require a bachelor’s degree, now requires a master’s degree, even though a person with a bachelor’s degree could still competently do that job. this is a result of the job market being flooded with people who have higher degrees than was usual, and this new higher degree becomes the norm when hiring.
dennis: i hate having to sh-ll out so much money and spend so much time to go to grad school.
omar: why not stop with a bachelor’s?
dennis: because of degree creep, i need a master’s degree to have a good chance of getting a good job.
