distancing
the (often long & torturous) process of breaking up a relationship.
my husband and i are slowly distancing from each other.
i kept the house and he has a separate apartment. the kids sleep over at his apartment every other weekend, and he takes them to school that monday. we still go to parent-teacher meetings together, sometimes he picks them up from school if i am busy at work. he is paying the mortgage – i pay the utilities. we haven’t started dating other people yet, but we have talked about how to handle it with the kids. we stopped sleeping together. the kids are adjusting ok – the dog seems the most confused.
