an underhanded social strategy of convincing someone to perform something in front of others or put themselves pubicly on the line that results in the performer being berated or ignored.
sally talked joan into singing opera for her boyfriend’s family reunion. afterwards, sally tried to convince joan it was just a joke, but joan couldn’t wait to get even with sally for making her do the wishbone.
“you want me to do the wishbone so that you can get me out of the running.”
