derived from the term “don’t rock the boat” (dorb), dorbism describes the tendency inherent in many senior managers, or those with a stake in a system, to do nothing to improve services, address problems or tackle problematic people/issues.
a reluctance to act as a positive change agent due to the perceived risk that such action will be viewed negatively by superiors or others with influence (including the press)
despite the government’s recent cuts in funding for education, the dorbism of university vice chancellors is clear from their relative silence on the matter.
