1. the first beat of a measure of music. refers to the downward motion displayed by a conductor on beat one.
2. in the music industry, the time when a recording session or live show is scheduled to begin. everything must be set up and ready to go before this time. often ignored by big stars with bigger egos.
1. after the grand pause in measure 30, watch for the downbeat.
2. the downbeat was at 10:00, but the singer didn’t even show up at the studio until 12:00.

australian slang for the state of victoria, australia. generally used by citizens of nsw and queensland in a mildly derogatory or joking nature, but occasionally used by citizens of victoria while in one of the other states. “the weather down mexico way is looking pretty bad” “eh, that figures” “where’s she from?” “down mexico way”
