fakelore
music, art, and literature p-ssed off as folklore when in reality they are not. soviet-era ensembles like the red army choir are a prime example of fakelore: the music and dances have been prettied up for m-ss public and soviet government consumption. there is an increasing trend for many music and dance ensembles around the world to present more authentic folkloric material, but it is an uphill battle because of the demands of commercial interests.
when you see the moiseyev dance ensemble perform, bear in mind that you’re seeing carefully ch-r-ographed dances. a lot of the material they present is fakelore.
