a completely unique dialect of english created when a native portuguese speaker becomes immersed in english by living in the greater boston area while still at a linguistically impressionable age, but not so impressionable so as to completely lose the original portuguese accent. the results in the speaker simultaneously with both a boston and portuguese accent. the name “fernandish” results from the name of one of the most well known speakers of this language.
when fernanda drops r’s in a sentence like a native {bostonian] but also makes portuguese sounds like “aash” and “jaow” she speaking fernandish.
