French touch
a loose term describing the influence of the french on electronic music, especially house. french house artists, notably c-ssius (philippe zdar, boom b-ss), daft punk (guy-manuel de homem-christo, thomas bangalter), and étienne de crécy, popularized the using of samples from disco records of the late 70’s/early 80’s and running those samples through different filters and phasers on computers, creating a funky, “new disco” style of house distinct from the chicago style popular in the mid-90s. today, it usually describes any electronic music obviously influenced by french (like louis la roche) as well as new electronic acts that actually are french (like justice).
daft punk’s alb-m, discovery, has that special french touch that i love.
