Guided Modification and Branching
guided modification and branching (gmb) describes a process by which species may have originated over millions of years through common descent by the intelligent modification of the genetic code from one generation to the next. it is a subset of intelligent design. it differs from some types of theistic evolution in that it proposes that a possible reason g-d may have had in producing life this way was to build a complex ecology gradually at a pace that the angels could learn to manage and control.
the woodp-ck-r has some unusual characteristics that show irreducible complexity that are difficult to explain by evolution, but can be easily explained by guided modification and branching. g-d could have taken a similar species of insect eating bird and modified the genetics of that bird to produce a new bird with a hard beak, strong neck muscles, the instinct to drill trees, etc.
