a person, usually male (thus the “man” part) who kills for money. the suave, suit-wearing type romanticized by movies and video games are a rare breed these days, if not completely nonexistant (except maybe in governmental capacities.) hired -ss-ssins are never suave, and they rarely wear suits.

also called cleaners, many hitmen today do very unexciting work. mostly just making people’s spouses (who they’ve paid to off them)look like they accidentally got in a car crash. unlike in the movies, hitmen can be old, out of shape, unsophistocated, unrelated to any mobs and can also occasionally be women. hitmen don’t kill because they like it, necessarily, just because they like the money.

awesome game series depicting the career of ‘codename 47’, the highest paid -ss-ssin in the world. highly realistic games with many elements involved, the most obvious one being stealth. bucketloads of weapons to choose from and heaps of missions to get through.
