PHIGHTINGIST
a modern moniker for the philadelphia phillies. this term was first coined in 1993 during the world series. the word phightingist is used to describe the tenacious nature of the philadelphia phillies. this new nickname retains the alliterative trait of its predecessor which was the “fightin’ phils”. it also refers to the sometimes combative att-tude displays by phillies fans who are fueled on alcohol.
i went down to citizen’s bank park to watch the phightingist phillies play ball.
