the belief that church and state should be entirely separate, and that the citizens should be free to believe whatever they want.
the government of america is based on secularism, whatever glenn beck might think.
a belief and theoretical system of governance aimed to remove religious influence from politics. if its theory is applied both religion and politics are safe from each other. every member of society is seen and treated equally for their religious views and laws are judged on their logicality; not on their religious or spiritual importance.
the extent of secularism in the u.s. demonstrates how far ahead it is compared to religious governance and the darkening prejudice of fundamentalism.
