punjabi/urdu origins for and individual that is ‘stingy’ or ‘tight with the pennies’. you know that friend who runs to the toilet when the bill comes? or puts their hand so deep into their pocket/bag as if they are digging for gold, claiming that they have lost their wallet? yes. they are a shoddah. other forms of shoddah-ism include not being happy for the success of others or being jealous of material goods a peer or colleague may possess. the use of the word is commonly -ssociated with those who have been fed on a silver spoon their whole life. plural: shoddeh.
