travel shaming
the subtle but often times very overt manner in which one attempts to make another feel guilty or inferior for not traveling (or for not wanting to travel) to the popular destination(s) of the day.
me – i just took my family on a vacation to hawaii for a week? what are your plans for vacation?
you – we’re going to visit some places around town and just relax for a week.
me – that’s cool. not everybody has the desire to experience something different nor do they have the money to afford to go to neat, exotic places.
you – no, that’s not it at all. what’s up with the travel shaming? i really don’t find travel enjoyable, and am just looking forward to a week of decompressing and relaxing.
me (sarcastically) – if you say so.
