a mix between a protagonist and an antagonist in writing or a story. an arotagonist can appear evil in a plot but really be good or appear good but really be evil. the arotagonist neither -ssists nor hinders the main characters progression or both -ssists and hinders the progression of the main character.
snape was the perfect arotagonist in harry potter.
