Balticization
a political process in which an independent country is subjected to annexation of a powerful country and gains independence again. the term comes from the baltic states (estonia, latvia and lithuania) that were independent from 1920 till 1940, when they were annexed to the soviet union, only to secede as independent countries in 1991.
balticization differs from balkanization.
