one is said to be ‘bashiry’ when they deliberately ask questions in a cunning way to illicit the often controversial answer that they are looking for.

the term bashiry journo is now often applied to sports journalists who put words into managers/players mouths and print fabricated stories based on the quotes.
the word bashiry is derived from the surname of ‘bashiry journo’ martin bashir who famously conducted a series of interviews with high profile celebrities. most notably he is known for consistently tripping-up michael jackson in a series of interviews.
