hawaiian surf slang used to communicate many things very quickly: location(in surf; ping); quality of ride; incoming sets!
(kimo wipes out on a freak set. his friends scan the horizon for signs of life.)
“cheeeee!” yelps kimo to let his friends know both where he is and that he is not dead.
