desert theory
a theory of punishment that is retributive in nature and involves giving out a punishment that the offender deserves, without considering other factors, such as rehabilitation.
also known as ‘just deserts.’
judge tough does not believe in rehabilitation — he only subscribes to the desert theory of punishment.
