another term for an “algebra word problem”—it is putting mr. x or mrs. y to work to tell you the value of that unknown quant-ty.
solving an equation is the main event in algebra: the goal is to find that unknown value x, by isolating it—thou shalt do the same thing to either side of the equation to keep it in balance.
