ethnocide
“ethnocide” means “destruction or murder of an ethnic group”. it comes from the greek “έθνος” and the latin “caedere”. in contrast to the more-general term “genocide” (pertaining to a case in which significant numbers of people are murdered, and with “genus” referring to either ethnic, cl-ss, or familial distinction), “ethnocide” refers to the specific and targeted destruction of an ethnic group.
the holocaust was really less of a genocide than it was an ethnocide, since the n-z-s (yemach shemam.) specifically intended to destroy the jewish ethnic group.
