Ethnopornography
the practice of fetishizing other, usually non-western cultures for purposes of conscious or unconscious valorization of one’s own worldliness and/or openness to cultural difference. may include the open display of jewelry, clothing and other cultural symbols completely incongruous with one’s own ident-ty.
ethnop-rnography is usually practiced by white, middle-cl-ss, highly educated liberals who claim attraction to the values, beliefs and practices of those whose symbols they adopt because they are somehow more authentic, spiritually complex, and/or true to human nature than their own.
a contemporary form of post-colonial oppression.
