if a person pointed at a rabbit and said “gavagai!”, you might have a tough time making sense of that. gavagai could mean rabbit, sure, but it could also mean stuff like “instance of rabbitness” or “undetached rabbit parts.” but if a person pointed at a rabbit and said “undetached rabbit parts!”, that wouldn’t make any sense at all.
