global cooling
aka global dimming, air pollution causes blockage of sunlight to hit the earth’s surface and therefore causes global cooling. but global warming’s effect is so overly strong that it surp-sses that of global dimming.
global cooling is nullified by the effects of global warming.
recorded temperature decreases in the 1950-70s as a result of man-made aerosol and sulfer emissions after wwii. slowed due to air pollution laws that limited their emissions in the 80s and 90s, but also because of warming effect of co2 (emitted at the same time) which takes longer to kick in.
now that we have reduced so2 emissions, but a lot more co2 emissions, the global cooling is over-run by global warming.
something that happened during the 1970’s due to humans spewing aerosols into the atmosphere. once we stopped spewing aerosols into the atmosphere, global cooling stopped, thus proving that human society can affect global climate. the concern over global cooling was exaggerated by newsweek in the 1970’s and as a result many conservatives completely distort the issue in order to attack the current scientific consensus on global warming.
that they do this based on a newsweek article is bizarre considering that most of the time they complain about how the mainstream media distorts the news. of course, in this instance newsweek just so happened to not be distorting the news for some reason. at least according to many conservatives.
i’m sick and tired of hearing right-wing talk radio show hosts continuing to distort the global cooling of the 1970’s.
the last time that occured was in the 1600s.
today’s scientific instruments are simply too primitive to accurately measure global cooling or global warming.
er..no, ayb, we are in one right now, except that our pollution has only delayed its effects.
