Haiastan
pr-nounced (hi-us-taan)the armenian word for armenia, an independent republic in the caucasus over only 10% of historic armenia, with a population of around 3.5 million. it is surrounded by georgia from the north, turkey from the west, azerbaijan from the east and iran from the south. 90% of historic armenia is presently occupied by turkey, which organized and executed a genocide of the armenian population in that area in 1915, resulting in the deaths of 1.5 million armenians or “hai”s (pr-nounced hye)thus the word haiastan.
