jamtronica is a growing music genre started in the united states in the mid-90’s. the genre is essentially a live band playing techno or electronica without any significant use of dj’s or samples. it was in some ways born out of the band phish’s forays into funk influenced electronic music, but the band to really kick it off was the disco biscuits, formed in 1995. since then it has expanded, and other notable bands now include the new deal and particle.
i’ve really been into the jamtronica seen ever since i caught the biscuits late-night show at bonnaroo.
