the modern tradition of making one’s anniversary a month long affair. in vivid contrast with a joeniversary, instead of a cake and -rs- party, lillyversaries are a collection of smaller smart events carefully organised to cover a limited amount of one’s friends, family and acquaintances at a time. usually accompanied with a useful guide and bronze, silver and gold tickets, in true literary fashion these smaller events are designed to offer an exposition, build up or rising action until the final climax when everyone finally wishes this lilly a happy birthday. sometimes there are a couple of tragic premature happy birthday wishes as people cannot stand the intense antic-p-tion but this only adds to the narrative. twists such as surprise parties are optional but a must, specially if every gift is made of chocolate.
