swahili word for qat, a weedy plant that is chewed for it’s mild stimulative effects. both of miraa’s major active ingredients -cathine and cathinone- are phenylalklamines, meaning they are in the same cl-ss of chemicals as amphetamines.
the trucker chewed some miraa while driving his lorry so that he wouldn’t fall asleep.
