usually refers to the building that the door belongs to, often which is a home.
nick lives next door to david on downing street. david’s place is number 10 and nick’s is number 11.
out in the countryside, mr eavis’s farm has a border along a long road. mr park’s farm is on the other side of the road. their farms are next door to each other.
