a derisive term for a political progressive. first appeared in the 1960s as a term for old guard leftists of jewish background. derived from the tendency of jews of eastern european heritage to pr-nounce ‘r’ as ‘w’, in keeping with yiddish pr-nunciation. now can be used as a term for all progressives, regardless of ethnicity.
boulder politics lurched toward orthodox leftism with the arrival of lots of pwogs in the 1980s.
