rougeois
similar to the social cl-ss concept of bourgeois, ‘rougeois’ is a term that defines a particular social position and att-tude. ‘rougeois’ denotes the rural lower socioeconomic cl-ss, especially in the southern us, (aka red-necks) whose att-tudes and behaviors are marked by conformity to the standards and conventions of the middle cl-ss. the members of the ‘rougeois’ occupy a socioeconomic position intermediate between those of the lower cl-sses and the wealthy, and in general are materialistic and capitalist in mindset, with a tendency for striving for mediocracy. see ‘rougeoisie’.
