Scottish Goodbye


when you announce your intention to depart from a party and start saying goodbye to people, and you also try to get your friends to leave with you, but are ultimately unsuccessful and end up staying.
randy began a scottish goodbye – he’s been telling people he’s leaving for the last three hours and he’s still here!
when someone talks about leaving a location or an event and even tries to encourage others to leave with them, likely by disparaging the situation, but, in the end, does not leave.
graham was having a terrible time at lindy’s party and he stood there complaining to everyone about how terrible it was, saying he was leaving from almost the minute he got there. but it’s two hours later and he’s still here! total scottish goodbye.
