working in a place, typically government or large organization, that is highly dysfunctional where one has to choose between the blue pill and be happy, and the red pill and be miserable. it’s a reference to the world created in the movie “the matrix.”
dude, this place is so bad, it’s like working for the matrix, evil powers run it from backstage. it pays the bills though.
