allomorph

any varation on the human frame -e.g., a blind person, a deaf person, a paraplegic is an allomorph. they are all human beings who differ from the norm in some respect. first proposed in 1980 by john gliedman and william roth in “the unexpected minority: handicapped children in america.” the authors saw the term as a much less loaded way to describe people with disabilities as compared with words like disabled or handicapped which imply inferiority to the norm, as opposed to simple difference.
america’s more than fifty million allomorphs face crushing but often unintentional job discrimination.
