an apprentice or protégé who is building his or her baiting career with on-the-job training while working for a master baiter, who helps the apprentice learn the trade of baiting, in exchange for their continuing labour for an agreed period after they become skilled. usually within the first portion of the apprenticeship, he or she will acquire skills such as snake wrangling and how to properly grip a rod from the book “the master baiter’s compendium” and other various educational texts. in the latter portion of the apprenticeship, the master baiter will typically give hands-on lessons and eventually the official “c-mulative exam of master baiting.”
apprentice baiter: hi, i’m joey.
master baiter: oh, are you my new apprentice baiter? welcome aboard!
apprentice baiter: why thank you master baiter!
master baiter: please, call me d-ck.
