geordie word short for: all right? or how are you?
also: i’m all right.
also: a greeting.
areet? why aye man.
how’s you? areet.
use is most widespread in northern england, esp. yorkshire, derbyshire. replaces ‘alright?’; ‘are you alright?’ as a term of greeting.
example:
“areet, ‘ows tha goin’?”
(ah-rayt, ow-z tha guh-in)
means:
“alright, how are things going?”
