the most important international compet-tion in football (soccer), which is held every four years in a different country in asia and is organized by the asia football confederation (afc), one of the federation internationale de football -ssociation (fifa)’s six confederations.
1) j-pan has been the reigning asia champion since 2000.
2) last summer, aug. 7th, 2004, the j-pan national football team was surrounded by hundreds of anti-j-panese chinese supporters after the final of the afc asia cup in beijing. they threw stones and bottles at the team, and burnt the j-panese national flags. in every match, the j-panese national anthem was drowned out by boos, and j-panese supporters were thrown pet bottles and garbage by anti-j-panese chinese supporters. chinese xenophobia raises serious doubts about beijing’s ability to host the 2008 beijing olympic games.
