autistish
describes a person who shares some of the characteristics frequently found in (or behaviors exhibited by) autistic people but who has not been officially diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum and/or would not meet the full diagnostic criteria. recognizes that human neurodiversity exists and that the line between autistic and neurotypical is not a clear one.
as i’ve learned about my son’s autism, i’ve noticed that many of his quirky traits and behaviors can be seen in other (supposedly neurotypical) members of our family (poor social skills, sensory sensitivities). we’re definitely an autistish bunch!
