avengers: infinity war (2018)


avengers: infinity war is a 2018 american superhero film based on the marvel comics superhero team the avengers, produced by marvel studios and distributed by walt disney studios motion pictures. it is the sequel to 2012’s the avengers and 2015’s avengers: age of ultron, and the nineteenth film in the marvel cinematic universe (mcu). the film is directed by anthony and joe russo, written by christopher markus and stephen mcfeely, and features an ensemble cast including robert downey jr., chris hemsworth, mark ruffalo, chris evans, scarlett johansson, benedict c-mberbatch, don cheadle, tom holland, chadwick boseman, paul bettany, elizabeth olsen, anthony mackie, sebastian stan, danai gurira, let-tia wright, dave bautista, zoe saldana, josh brolin, and chris pratt. in avengers: infinity war, the avengers and the guardians of the galaxy attempt to stop thanos from am-ssing the all-powerful infinity stones.

the film was announced in october 2014 as avengers: infinity war – part 1. the russo brothers came on board to direct in april 2015 and by may, markus and mcfeely had signed on to write the script for the film, which drew inspiration from jim starlin’s 1991 the infinity gauntlet comic and jonathan hickman’s 2013 infinity comic. in 2016, marvel shortened the t-tle to avengers: infinity war. filming began in january 2017 at pinewood atlanta studios in fayette county, georgia, and lasted until july 2017, shooting back-to-back with an unt-tled direct sequel.

1. thor, having lost his hammer mjolnir in thor: ragnarok (2017), constructs a new hammer known as stormbreaker in this film. stormbreaker is named for the asgardian hammer given to thor’s comrade beta ray bill. it is a war hammer-axe, based on the marvel comics ultimate mjolnir.

2. the 2014 comic-con revealed that josh brolin would play thanos in future marvel films, when the actor came on stage wearing the infinity gauntlet.

3. at a point of the movie thor, rocket and groot visits a star forge called nidavellir, where they meet a dwarf called eitri (peter d-nklage). in norse mythology, nidavellir is the home of the dwarves and one of the yggdrasil’s nine realms.

4. dr. strange’s (benedict c-mberbatch) comment about being in the end game refers to the point in a chess match where a large number of pieces have been sacrificed.

5. this is the first time that the guardians of the galaxy meet the avengers in the mcu.

6. hawkeye and ant-man are both absent from the movie but are mentioned.

7. ross marquand portrays johann schmidt / red skull, the “stonekeeper” and former n-z- commander of hydra during world war ii. marquand replaces hugo weaving, who had expressed reluctance to reprise the character from captain america: the first avenger.

8. directors joe and anthony russo launched a campaign called #thanosdemandsyoursilence requesting that people who saw the film early not to spoil it for those who hadn’t seen it yet.
