where you say you went to college if you attended harvard, princeton, yale, dartmouth, columbia, cornell, brown, penn, mit, or georgetown but don’t want to sound like a pompous douchebag. some people like to say they went “back east” for college to imply that they attended a top school when they really went to a state school n-body’s heard of.
john: i saw quite a few broadway shows when i was in college back east.
jane: ah, so did i! i went to columbia, did you as well?
john: well… city college of new york… but close enough!
