a eating establishment that looks like a pub but serves food, coffee, and snacks so is more like a restaurant. however, it cannot qualify as a restaurant because it looks too much like a pub.
term derived from 4 guys who debated whether a certain eating establishment with the word cafe in the t-tle was really a restaurant, cafe, or pub. an argument that would not have taken place had any of the partic-p-nts had better things to do with their time.
i took my friends out to eat at the the halfway cafstaurpub.
