Carbo-titanium
also known as carbon t-tanium or carbot-tanium, is a patented material made by modena design, the carbon composite manufacturing and consultancy arm of the italian car company pagani. it is a combination of t-tanium and carbon fiber to make the already strong carbon fiber even stronger as its main weak point is the lack of elasticity. they evolved the carbon fiber technology so that the bodywork could sustain small impacts without developing small cracks, using also different resins to bring a different or matching mixture of stiffness/yield strength and elasticity. the t-tanium wires and carbon composites are combined by first abrading the t-tanium to be bonded, coating the t-tanium with platinum, aging the t-tanium, spraying primer on the coated t-tanium, applying adhesive to the primer side of the t-tanium and then applying the carbon to the adhesive. this allows the carbon composite to bond securely to the t-tanium. this composite uses the best properties of each component, the combination having a better set of properties than either part. it could keep the structure/ch-ssis together even after a major crash and to keep the occupants safe. this has been used in later models of the zonda, such as the zonda r and pagani’s current vehicle, the huayra.
