client zoned
to be client zoned is when someone who was thought of as a friend politely rejects another’s interest in a friendly relationship by maintaining the formality of business etiquette.
i thought of the contractor we hired for our project as a friend, but when i invited them to coffee they clearly had client zoned me based on their reply that they don’t meet with clients outside the office and would prefer to stick to e-mail for work communication.
