when a sales person makes enough money to cover expenses.
came from western days when peddlers came into a hotel and needed a room but didn’t have any money. the hotelkeeper would take their hub or “nut” from the wagon as a deposit. if the peddler sold enough, the nut was covered.
it cost me $200 for dinner but the commisson on the sale was $2,000. i covered my nut and then some.
