Cyber Amnesia
in the case of online dating websites or smartphone apps, cyber amnesia is when one person sends a message to someone they have previously spoken to under the premise that they have never spoken before. this often happens when someone changes a profile picture, username, or profile information. it can seem rather awkward or strange to the person who does remember the previous conversation(s).
user1: hey
user2: hi, i think we spoke before. i’m (name), remember?
user1: um i’m not sure… i’m (name).
user2: yeah…. i know…
user1: oops, sorry. just had a bit of cyber amnesia right there. of course i remember you! (probably doesn’t)
