an organ that surrounds the urethra of males at the base of the bladder, comprising a muscular portion, which controls the release of urine, and a glandular portion, which secretes an alkaline fluid that makes up part of the semen and enhances the motility and fertility of sperm.
prostate gland n.
A chestnut-shaped body that surrounds the beginning of the male urethra at the base of the bladder, consists of two lobes connected anteriorly by an isthmus and posteriorly by a middle lobe lying above and between the ejaculatory ducts, controls the release of urine from the bladder, and whose milky fluid secretion is discharged into the urethra during semen emission.
