splitting a video container, like avi into its individual streams and store the streams in individual files.
the practical reason is to extract an audio or subt-tle track from a video. the process of adding those streams again is called muxing, removing or adding streams in-place is called remuxing.
a: i really want that audio track from this video file
b: demux the video and just take it.
