the use of a pet to divert attention from an uncomfortable moment or situation. often used when visiting other peoples relatives, or any environment where you don’t know anyone or have anything to say so you speak to the dog/cat/fish/bird.
sh-t, adam dragged me to his aunt’s house on sat-rday for tea then talked on the phone for an hour i had to use a dogdiversion twice!
